The Niger state publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDP) who is also a 2019 governorship aspirant of the party, Yahaya Mohammed usman has dropped his ambition and defected to the People Democratic Party (PDP) to support the 2015 Governorship candidate of the party, Umar Nasko who has indicated interest to re-contest in 2019.

Usman stated this in Minna at the weekend in an interview with journalists after leading his campaign team and thousands of youths to decamp to PDP in a brief ceremony at Kwagila area of the city.

He said, “This evening myself and other thousands of supporters of mine, friends and families are defecting to the PDP. In the past we had reasons to leave PDP due to grievances but events unfolding in the party has shown us that some of them that caused the problems have left to join All Progressives Congress (APC) so the time is ripe for us to return to the PDP”

He explained that he was collapsing his campaign organization into that of Umar Nasko, adding that “I am dropping my ambition or suspending my ambition so that we will pursue one agenda with Alhaji Umaru Nasko who is a bosom friend”.

He explained that the decision to drop his gubernatorial ambition for that of UMar Nasko because the two of them have the same vision and passion for the development of the state.

He said, “it is fine if he can get to the realm of affairs more so he has tried before on the same PDP platform and campaigning for him will be very easy. In the past we know what happened; now we know that he is going to win”.

Usman also known as ‘Sai Baba’ said the PDP zoning arrangement for the governorship does not favour his ambition but that of Nasko who he said will have one term if elected to respect the zoning arrangement because his zone has done four years already.

He said,” the chances of Umar Nasko in the 2019 election are very bright. He has indicated interest to run and has reached advance stage in consultations with key stakeholders, he will soon take his letter of intent to the PDP secretariat”.
