Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has directed that salaries and allowances of all Political Appointees in the State be slashed by 30%.

A statement issued by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ahmed Ibrahim Matane disclosed that the reduction of the salaries of the Political Office Holders is with immediate effect.

The SSG further explained that the pay cut of salaries and allowances will affect Mr. Governor, his Deputy, Honourable Commissioners, Special Advisers and all other Political Appointees.

According to the SSG, “the reduction which is temporary was also in consideration of the economic situation imposed on the State by the Coronavirus pandemic.

He divulged that the State Government would transparently resume full payment of salaries and allowances when the economic situation improves.

Ahmed Matane regretted any inconvenience the reduction might cause the affected Officers, adding that “His Excellency, Governor Abubakar Sani Bello acknowledged the patriotism, patience, and co-operation of all the Political Appointees at all times.”
