The Niger State House of Assembly on Tuesday screened and confirmed 4 additional commissioner nominees.
Nigerwatch Newspaper correspondent reports that the four nominees include Isah Kanko, Duza Emmanuel, Kabiru Musa and Danjuma Sallau.
They were given the nod following the resolution of petitions against them, bringing to 18 the total number of nominees confirmed by the Assembly after 14 were initially cleared on Dec.28, 2017.
In a related development, the House passed a resolution asking the Commissioner of Police to appear before it on Monday over the increasing spate of kidnappings in Munya Local Government Area.
The House passed the resolution following a motion moved by John Bahago, representing Munya constituency, under matters of public importance.
“There are series of insecurity threats in Munya Local Government especially the issue of kidnapping.
“Hardly a day will pass without a report of kidnapping in Munya Local Government.
“Recently the Local Government Party Secretary was kidnapped on the 18th January, 2018 along with ward chairman of Kazai village,” he added
Bahago also said the policemen deployed to his local government were not helping matters as they were always in the habit of extorting money from the locals instead of protecting them.
“The Mobile Policemen deployed to the Local Government to solve the problem of insecurity are not helping matters at all.
“Instead of patrolling around, they only mount a check point where farmers are forced to pay the sum of fifty naira or more,” he said
