Let me begin by thanking all of you, Family and friends who have stood by me through arguably the toughest period of my political career.
But time and again, our beliefs and convictions compels us to set aside fear of failure and persecution to do that which must be done.
That is why I want to use this opportunity to inform you of my intention to seek the nomination of my party the People’s Democratic Party as its gubernatorial candidate for the 2019 Governorship elections in Niger State.
I want to assure you that this was not a decision I made lightly, or out of any intent for self-service.
This is my response to a call that has echoed through the length and breadth of our beloved Niger State from millions of young and old Nigerlites.
Like you may know, shortly after my loss in the last elections, I had immediately activated a platform to actualize some of the ideas that inspired me to run for office through my non-profit, THE UMAR NASKO FOUNDATION.
The foundation in less than a year has directly impacted 45 amputees, over 20 job seekers, 14 youth advocates and more.
My proudest accomplishment however, remains our vocational skills training program which at launch was derided as a gimmick by many but Insha Allah, is training over 80 youths across 11 states of the country in several vocational skills including: fashion design, mobile phone repairs, graphic design, Aluminum fabrication, shoe making, hair braiding, and catering – for FREE!
My particular reference of this is not about me but about our 30 plus State Coordinators who just on their convictions and belief in my leadership, volunteer their time and skills free; and the trainers themselves who for next to nothing joined forces and efforts across different ethnic, religious, and political divides, to help other young people like themselves acquire meaningful skills that will help them earn a living, and enable many of them to escape poverty.
This is what happens when people believe in leadership and are willing to do their best to enable the leadership excel. This is also one of the most open expression of my acceptance in and even beyond Niger State.
It is this same vision that compels me to seek the seat of the Governor of Niger State at this time: The vision of a collaboration between leadership and followers to provide economic empowerment through meaningful government programs for the people of Niger State.
I understand that popularity does not win elections but it is in the interest of our great party to run a pre-emptive survey of Niger electorates to know who is best positioned and capable to lead our party to victory at the coming polls.
If our party could do this, it will be discovered that with all humility, my candidacy offers our great party the best opportunity to take back Niger State.
Besides my overwhelming acceptance and support, I remain arguably the most experienced and prepared candidate at the moment having served as a 4-time commissioner, Chief of Staff to the Governor, and Gubernatorial flagbearer in the immediate past elections.
Having learnt from the experience of those in authority, and personal observations, I promise to protect the interest of the Youth while upholding the trust and confidence of our elders when nominated as the official flag bearer of our great party, or eventually as Governor of Niger State. This notwithstanding, I have developed a robust manifesto that is detailed and straight to the point about our mission and how we will achieve them, to be released at the appropriate time.
Indeed, the best promises are best judged by results – I have silently but effectively established presence and network in the FCT and all 36 States of the federation. I have trained and equipped 90 youths with life changing vocational skills, and in the process I command the followership and significant loyalty of over 1 million youths in the increasingly influential social media space that will play a critical role in this forthcoming elections.
Like you will recall, I have never been a practitioner of politics of bitterness. Indeed, I was the first candidate to publicly congratulate his opponent following the victory of the incumbent Alhaji Sani Bello, of the APC.
I remain unchanged in my belief that all power comes from Allah through the exercise of the democratic will of the people.
I recognize that in the face of my seeming trials and challenges, that there is a certain boldness – to this announcement. But I also know that extraordinary times such as this demand extra ordinary decisions of courage.
This courage is powered by the millions of Nigerlites who look and call upon me as a better alternative to the present leadership.
That is why I am soliciting your endorsement and support as I embark on this journey first to offer our party the best chance at victory, and to Nigerlites, a partnership that will lead us to greatness. By the grace of God, I will never let you down.
Thank you for your time.
