Gov.Abubakar Bello of Niger has donated N5m to the victims of Monday’s windstorm in Rafin Gora village of Kontagora Local Government Area.
The disaster which happened at 2:00pm in the afternoon on Monday claimed seven lives.
Bello, who was represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, Alhaji Haliru Jikantoro, made the donation on wednesday during a visit to condole with victims of the natural disaster.
He gave N200, 000 each to families of the seven people who lost their lives, saying the remaining N3.6m will be given to those whose houses were destroyed.
The governor stated that the N5m was to serve as a palliative measure before other relief materials would come from government.
He maintained that the government was taking necessary steps to minimize the impact of disaster in future.
A seven man adhoc committee set up by the state house of assembly also went to Rafi gora to console the victims and also ascertain the level of damages caused by the disaster.
In his remarks, the Sarkin Sudan of Kontagora, Alhaji Saidu Namaska, represented by Alhaji Aminu Ahmed, thanked the governor for reaching out to the victims when they needed him most.
Nigerwatch reports that the member representing Kontagora II, Nura Garba also donated N500000 to the victims.
The chairman of kotangora local government also said he gave 50,000 naira for the burial arrangements for the deceased to be buried and hoping for the government to intervene.
Niger watch spoke to some of the villagers to know what caused the rainstorm and it was gathered that houses were been built on the water ways.
The Niger state government said it will find a lasting solution to the disaster to hinder future re-occurrence.
