The leader of the legislative arm of Shiroro local government, Hon. Yusuf Aliyu has called for the arrest of the impeached chairman of the council, Hon. Suleiman Dauda Chukuba for parading himself as chairman and forcefully gaining access to his office.
The leader made the call in an interview with newsmen after emerging from stakeholders meeting with APC elders forum, ward chairmen, former elected and appointed political appointees, party leaders and councillors. Hon. Yusuf said it was illegal for the chairman to come to the office parading himself as the chairman after he has been impeached by them. He said a copy of the letter of his suspension and removal has been given to the Divisional Police Officer in the local government, the DSS and other security agencies.
He said even though the chairman has been avoiding and dodging service of his letter of suspension and removal, he cannot feign ignorance of the action they took against him because everybody in the state knows he has been removed. He said the chairman have broken the law for going to the office and parading himself as chairman knowing that he has been suspended and removed on allegations of financial impropriety. He said going forward, all they wanted was for the state Governor to set up a judicial panel of inquiry as required by law to investigate their allegations against the suspended chairman. He said for now, the vice chairman was the acting chairman, pending the outcome of investigation against the chairman. However the stakeholders, arising from a meeting at the residence of Hon Adamu Saidu Erena, a frontline politician, said investigating the chairman was imperative to put the matter to rest. Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the chairman of the APC elders forum, Umaru Sanda Tanimu said the reason for the meeting was to ganer support for the councillors and to assured them that the elders and people of Shiroro were solidly behind them. He explained that the chairman, since after he was elected to the position, have been running the affairs of the council alone and has kept other stakeholders in the dark, adding “he’s timid and will never change. He thinks and act he’s bigger than everyone in the local government”.
He said to find a way out from the crisis, the governor should exercise his powers by instituting investigation into the financial and criminal allegations levelled against the chairman. He said this will unravel whether what has been accused of the chairman was true or not. He said as elders they are neutral in the issue but will want to see that justice was done to both parties and the people of Shiroro.
Also speaking, the Shiroro local government APC chairman, Hon. Peter Kaburu said it was in the interest of the council chairman that a honest and thorough investigation be conducted, because the allegations against him were very weighty. He said if after the investigation the suspended chairman was cleared, he can return to his seat but if otherwise, then he remained removed.
He said all they wanted in the local government was for peace to reign, adding that such crisis could weaken the party and affect it’s chances in the subsequent elections. He said the party had invited the chairman for a parley to find an amicable resolution to the crisis but he has been ignoring them.
“We had intervened in their earlier crisis when they accused him of misappropriating N50M tenement rate. Now we have been inviting him, but he’s not honouring our invitation”, he said.
