Lovers, haters, neutrals, thousands, if not millions, he has them in equal measures and every day they multiply.
He bares his mind with the oratory finesse that since the demise of Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa has not been equalled.
Named Muazu at birth, with hardwork, sound education he was later turbaned Talban Minna, among other titles that are numerous, he earned.
From the Southwest of Nigeria, to the east , coming up North, there can hardly be anyone that can match Talban Minna’s clout in terms of education, politcal experience, administrative acumen and network of reach, name them, they are his friends.
Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, Talban Minna, Naisan Kontagora, Badakoshin Agaie, Sodangin Nupe, Sardaunan Hausa, Agbeyewa of the Source, etc, etc …was born in Minna in Niger State on November 12, 1955. He attended the College of Arts & Arabic Studies in Sokoto, graduating in 1974.
In 1977, he obtained the Nigeria Certificate in Education from the College of Education, Sokoto.
After the mandatory one-year National Youth Service, in 1978 he became a teacher at Government Teachers’ College, Minna.
Later, he went to Bayero University, Kano, where he obtained a BA in Education in 1983.
He went on to the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States in 1985, gaining a PhD in Public Policy and Strategic Studies in 1989.
In 1983 as a fresh minted graduate, the young Muazu Babangida Aliyu was elected to the National House of Representatives for Chanchaga Federal Constituency, this is not widely known to younger generation, because it was cut short by a Military intervention in politics.
Talban Minna joined the Federal civil Service as Acting Chief Political Affairs Officer in May, 1990, raising to the position of Permanent Secretary, waiting to be crowned the Head of Service of the Federation as the Most Senior Permanent Secretary in 2007, but fate had a different plan.
Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, (Talban Minna) was elected governor of Niger State in April 2007, and for a second term in 2011, on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) platform.
His achievements as Governor will make a whole 500 pages book.
If the PDP was an advantage to him then, it is the cross he must carry now haven giving him the platform to become a Governor for 8 years, the biggest reason he is being hounded by the ruling All Progressive Congress Government both at the state and at the Centre, he is a member of the PDP which he has refused to give up even at attacks, persecution and incarceration, leaders must be strong willed if they are on a mission of rescue.
The truth is that they fear Talban Minna as such they must destroy him, unknown to them, the birth and life of Talban Minna has being that of a destiny child all the way, that is part of an epistle for another time.
With the myriads of challenges the nation is bedeviled with due partly to the upreparedness of the APC, Talban Minna looks prepared for a national assignment anytime soon.
HBD chief servant sir!
