JUST IN: YOUTH BLOCKADE LAPAI-AGAIE ROAD OVER SPEAKER’S REFUSAL TO INAUGURATE MEMBER.

Youth in Agaie town of Niger State have blockaded the road leading into and out of Agaie town over what they said is refusal of the Speaker of the Niger state House of Assembly, Abdullahi Bawa Wuse to Inaugurate the Member from their Local Government.

Mr Yahaya Abdullahi Eginma who is the only Member elected from the opposition PDP was not Inaugurated with his colleagues because the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) even after declaring him winner, refused to issue him a certicate of return for what it described as declaration of result under duress.

Mr. Eginma approached a Minna federal High court and got an order asking INEC to issue him the certificate of return, on the 4th of July 2019 a month after the House was proclaimed by the Governor.

INEC on its part complied with the Federal High court judgement and issued Mr Abdullahi Eginma his certificate of return on the 5th of July 2019, a day after the court ruling. Mr Eginma said since then it’s been one excuse or the other coming from the speaker.

Mr Eginma said ” The speaker Initially said his child travelling abroad had issues with the immigration service, the second time the clerk of the House, Mallam Abdullahi kagara said the House was undergoing renovation but there is an alternative, the third time Mr Kagara said there will be meeting of principal officers and the forth time he said the larger House will meet before he can invite me for which he doesn’t have a date for”

Nigerwatch Newspaper repeatedly called Speaker Bawa Wuse, but all calls were not picked and a text message sent to his known phone number was also not replied as at the time of going to press.
