The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has shifted the governorship election in Kogi and Bayelsa states to November 16.
Initially the date was slated for November 2, the commission decided to shift the polls following appeals by the Bayelsa state government and stakeholders for a shift as the earlier date is legally set aside as Thanksgiving Day in Bayelsa.
In a statement by INEC National Commissioner and chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, said the decision was taken “after a careful consideration of the appeals” during the commission’s regular weekly meeting held on Thursday, May 16.
In the amended timetable and schedule of activities for the elections, conduct of party primaries and resolution of any dispute would hold between August 18 and September 5 while campaigns will also commence on August 18.
Personal particulars of candidates would be published on September 16 while official register of voters would be published on October 3 with campaigns ending on November 14.
