COURT ISSUES ARREST WARRANT ON NSIEC CHAIRMAN, SECRETARY

A chief magistrate court in Minna, Niger state capital, has issued a bench warrant of arrest to commit the duo of Niger state independent electoral commission’s (NSIEC) chairman, Aminu Baba Alhaji and Secretary Habibu Bobbi Abdullahi to prison.

Chief magistrate Hauwa Baba Yusuf granted the order after the NSIEC official refused to obey a court Judgment since September ordering the commission and it’s officials to conduct a by-election in Daupe polling unit of Zuma west ward of Tafa local Government Area, Bariki ward of Bida LGA, Maiyaki Ndajiya ward also of Bida LGA all in Niger state.

According court papers filed by Bar. Mohammed Kudu Ndayako and sighted by Nigerwatch Newspaper, the NSIEC officials were to “Take notice that unless you obey the directions contained in the attached order of court you will be quilts of contempt of court and will be liable to be committed to prison”

The process was dated 12 November, 2020. At the court sitting today, Tuesday, the NSIEC officials after been served, refused to turn up for the hearing.

Presiding chief Magistrate 1, Hauwa Baba Yusuf in her ruling granting the order said, the NSIEC officials, Aminu Baba Alhaji and Habibu Bobbi Abdullahi having been served and failed to appear in court are held in contempt and a warrant is issued against them.
