A former commissioner of information and spokesman for the All Progress Congress, APC, Niger state, Mr Jonathan Vatsa has said that his party the APC is the author of hate speech in Nigeria, Mr Vatsa who was chairman at the 1st Niger State Social Media summit organized by the Progressive Media Practitioners, PMP, lamented the hypocritical disposition of the APC Government.
Mr. Vatsa said “Most of the Senators who are sponsors of the hate speech and social media bill are not representatives of the people, some of them are beneficiaries of automatic tickets and padded primary election” Mr Vatsa added that nobody can colonize our minds, the days of colonization has passed, in an ideal society, there should be process of recalling those Senators, Senator Sahabi AbdullahI have you done? Senator Sani Musa what have you done? they are just there building dynasty”.
Also speaking, representing Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, who also is the spokesperson to Governor Sani Bello, Mrs. Marry Noel Berje said “the hate speech and social media bill is a wrong bill”
Various other speakers lamented the hate speech and social media bill before the national Assembly, while also calling on citizens to be more responsible and self regulate in the use of social media. Various papers were delivered on the social media, blessings and the curses, by Mr.
Emperor Simone, channels television reporter in Minna, and Mrs Justina Ashishina of the Nations Newspaper.
Convener of the event Mr Dan Atori of the New Telegraph said “PMP is apolitical, non religious but a group of vibrant, young and determined and resourceful media practitioners of like minds who are drawn from various media organizationso to join hands together and give back our societythe best ways we can”
